Induction Hardening for Gears

Gear is a revolving spherical machine part having cut teeth or, in the case of a gearwheel or cogwheel, introduced teeth, which mesh with alternative toothed parts to transmit torque and speed. Gears find applications in Pumps, Power Plants Material handling systems, Aerospace and aircraft, Railways and trains Automobiles, etc. Gears can make equipment move in dissimilar directions, rapidly or slowly. Examples of general objects with gears are vehicles, non-digital clocks, drills, manual can openers and bicycles. Induction hardening is a heat treating method that is used to selectively harden portions of a gear, such as the roots, flanks and tips of teeth, providing enhanced hardness, wear resistance, and contact fatigue strength without disturbing the metallurgy of the core and other parts of the component.
