Induction Tempering

What is Induction Tempering?

Induction tempering is an induction heating procedure that improves mechanical properties such as ductility and toughness in work pieces that have previously been hardened. Induction tempering facilitates quality control of individual work pieces. Induction tempering’ advantage is its speed as it can temper work pieces in minutes, at times even seconds as furnace tempering normally take hours. Induction tempering is excellent for inline integration as it diminishes the number of machines in the process. Induction tempering process is usually used in the automotive industry to temper surface-hardened parts such as bars, shafts, and joints. This process is also used in the tube and pipe sector to temper through-hardened work pieces.
